NON-POST SEASON TOURNAMENT RULES

ALL Pony Baseball and Softball Rules will be followed and supplemented with the
Official Baseball Rule Book for situations NOT specifically covered in this document.

BASEBALL PITCHING:

Shetland & Pinto DivisionsNO PLAYER PITCH!

Mustang Division – 6 innings of eligibility per pitcher for the 3 day tournament.

Bronco Division – 7 innings of eligibility per pitcher for the 3 day tournament.

Pony Division – 7 innings of eligibility per pitcher for the 3 day tournament.

  • 1 pitch to a batter is ruled as an inning pitched.


SOFTBALL PITCHING:

Shetland & Pinto Division - NO PLAYER PITCH!

Mustang, Bronco & Pony Divisions -
9 innings of eligibility per pitcher for the 3 day tournament.

  • 1 pitch to a batter is ruled as an inning pitched.

BASEBALL & SOFTBALL LINE UPS:

Shetland & Pinto Divisions      

  • Shetland 6U Division: 9 or 10 defensive players including a FULLY dressed catcher (you MUST stay with whatever defensive choice you made for the entire game).
  • Pinto 8U Division: 9 defensive players including a FULLY dressed catcher.
  • MUST bat any player present for the game.
  • If a team is caught cheating by this rule, the team will be removed from the event.

Mustang, Bronco & Pony Divisions

  • 9 defensive players with substitutes.
  • Substitutes are married to the starter/substitute for which they entered the game.
  • Re-entry for only the starter.
  • No courtesy runners for the pitcher/catchers. A substitute may enter the game for the pitcher/catcher, but this is recorded as a pinch runner (substitution). If no substitutes are available, then no pinch runner may be used. This may only be done once a game for any player. A starter which is substituted for a second time, may not return to the game in any capacity.

 
BASEBALL RUN RULES:

** SEEDING GAMES MAY END IN A TIE. ELIMINATION GAMES MUST HAVE A WINNER!

Shetland Division -         

  • 5 runs per inning, 10 runs in the 6th inning only! 10 runs each additional extra inning until the game is completed with a winner (FOR ELIMINATION ONLY!).

Pinto Division -

  • 5 runs per inning, Open inning in the 6th inning only! Open inning for each additional extra inning until the game is completed with a winner (FOR ELIMINATION ONLY!).
  • 10 runs after 3 ½ innings or 4 innings depending on if the home team is ahead.

Mustang & Bronco Divisions

  • No run limit per inning.
  • Mustang - 10 runs after 3 ½ innings or 4 innings depending on if the home team is ahead.
  • Bronco – 10 runs after 4 ½ innings or 5 innings depending on if the home team is ahead.

Pony Divisions

  • No run limit per inning.
  • 10 runs after 4 ½ innings or 5 innings depending on if the home team is ahead.

SOFTBALL RUN RULE:


Shetland Division - 
5 runs per inning (Innings 1-5), 10 runs in the 6th inning.

Pinto and Mustang Divisions - 5 runs per inning (Innings 1-5), Open inning in the 6th inning.

Bronco and Pony Divisions - No run limit per inning.

 

BASEBALL TIME LIMITS:

Shetland Division – 1 hour, 30 minutes

Pinto & Mustang Divisions – 1 hour, 30 minutes

Bronco & Pony Divisions – 2 hours

  • No new inning after time has expired.
  • Seeding games may continue to extra innings if time allows.
  • Seeding games may end in a tie.

**  CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES HAVE NO TIME LIMIT!

SOFTBALL TIME LIMITS:

Shetland and Pinto Divisions - 1 hour

Mustang, Bronco, and Pony Division
s – 1 hour, 15 minutes

  • No new inning after time has expired.
  • Seeding games may continue to extra innings if time allows.
  • Seeding games may end in a tie.

**  CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES HAVE NO TIME LIMIT!


BASEBALL BAT RULES:
  • 2 ¼ inch barrel bats are permitted in Pony Baseball, but MUST have BOTH the 1.15 BPF Stamp and have text on the barrel reading “Pony Baseball Approved” to be legal.
  • 2 5/8 inch barrel bats are MUST have the 1.15 BPF Stamp OR the 0.50 BBCOR Stamp on the bat to be legal.
  • 2 ¾ inch barrel bats are ILLEGAL!

**  If a player is caught using an illegal bat during the game, the player will be called OUT and ejected from the game (may return in the next game). The manager will be ejected from the game, done for the tournament.

SOFTBALL BAT RULES:

2 1/4 in softball bats MUST have the ASA stamp on the barrel and cannot be on the disqualified bat list located on the Pony.Org website.


EJECTIONS:

Any player ejected from a game is out ONLY for that game. Any adult manager or coached ejected from a game is NOT permitted to return to their team for the remainder of the tournament. NO EXCUSES!


START TIME:

ALL teams should be prepared to begin play 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. If a team is not present for the adjusted start time, the team will forfeit the game.


HOME/AWAY:

  • Seeding Games - Home and away is determined at the plate meeting by a coin toss.
  • Elimination Games – Higher seeded team will decide home or away.


PROTESTS:

Any manager wishing to protest a game should advise the umpire and provide the umpire with the rule(s) from the Pony Baseball Rule Book or the Official Baseball Rule book of the MLB.  Protests MUST be made prior to the next play OR attempted play. Protesting a judgement call will not be permitted.

**  NO PROTESTS WILL BE HONORED AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF A GAME!


SCORE CARDS:

A score card will be used for each game and signed by the manager at the end. Please verify that ALL pitching and score information is accurate as this will be the ONLY source for verification throughout the event. If the score or pitching record(s) is incorrect and the card is turned in to a director (with or without a manager signature) the score remains unchanged.


INELIGIBLE PLAYERS:

TEAM ROSTERS WERE SUBMITTED BY THE LEAGUES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON. IF A TEAM IS CAUGHT USING AN ILLEGAL PLAYER AT ANY POINT DURING ANY PORTION OF THE TOURNAMENT, ALL GAMES THE TEAM HAS PLAYED WILL BE CONSIDERED FORFEITS AND THE SCORE FOR EACH GAME WILL REFLECT A 6-0 OR 7-0 LOSS DEPENDING ON THE DIVISION. THE TEAM WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO CONTINUE PLAY IN THE EVENT.


TIE BREAKERS:


First: Record
Second: Runs Allowed
Third: Runs Scored
Fourth: Run Differential
Fifth: Coin Flip
