The International Board of Directors has Four New Members

The year 2021 brought new changes to the International Board of Directors. PONY Baseball and Softball gained four new members. These new members are Eva Arambula, Chris Goebel, George Patterson and Lynford Lynch. In addition, Steve Workman is the new Treasurer and Stephanie Allen is the new Secretary. Here is more information to learn about the new board members.

Eva Arambula

Eva Arambula became involved with PONY six years ago. She has held various positions. Arambula became a field director and is now taking over for Brad Hubbard as the new West Zone Softball Division Director.

Arambula decided to get involved with PONY after a few years helping with the World Series as a liaison with Brad. She knew without a doubt that when asked to be a Field Director it was a definite yes! This is because she loved what PONY stood for and she’s proud to be a part of a great organization.

Eva had been involved in softball since her oldest daughter turned four and learned to love the game. She is a mother to three and a grandmother to twins therefore, softball and baseball will be a big part of her world for years to come.

Chris Goebel

Chris Goebel is going on his ninth year of being involved with PONY Baseball and Softball. He has held many positions. He was Assistant Region Director and now Region Director of Southern California.

Chris is the son of former Corporate Treasurer Don Goebel. Don had been involved with PONY Baseball and Softball for over 40 years and recently retired. With Don being a part of PONY Baseball and Softball for many years it gave Chris the opportunity to also be part of PONY. His family believes deeply in giving back to the community. It was a matter of time before Chris took a bigger role in PONY Baseball and Softball.

Goebel’s goal within PONY is to help PONY transition from year to year keeping focus on the mission of the organization. Being involved and seeing our youth on the ball fields, learning life lessons and having fun at the same time is what makes it enjoyable for Chris.

“I would like to thank my father for his guidance and mentorship over the years,” Goebel said. “The only way a person can volunteer the hours it requires to be successful within PONY is by the support from their family. I would like to thank my wife, Jamie and my kids, Cayden, Skylen and Holden.”

George Patterson

George Patterson resides in Fort Worth, Texas and became involved with PONY when his son started playing in 1984 in the Mustang program. That was the year him and his wife committed themselves to take an active part in the local league. They started as board members and the next year ended up being President and Secretary for the next 12 years.

Patterson started as a Field Director then moved to Section Director then Bronco District Director to Shetland/Pinto Assistant Division Director to now Foal, Shetland and Pinto Division Director for the South Zone.

George liked the concept and enjoyed watching the kids having fun. When the kids have fun this makes the parents and grandparents want to get involved. He firmly believes that a youth program such as PONY helps kids by giving them comfortable and stable environment where they can look up to a coach or other adults instead of maybe chaotic and perhaps an unstable home life.

Patterson’s goal is to continually stress that it is essential for us to offer a unique opportunity for all kids of different age groups, family dynamics, cultural backgrounds, and sexes to come together as a team.

Lynford lynch

In 1987, Lynford Lynch became involved with PONY Baseball and Softball when his son began playing Pinto ball. He was a coach, manager and member of the WYB Council. Lynch was the President of the Washington Youth Baseball Bronco League for four years. He then began to work strictly for PONY as a Field Director. In 2004, Lynch took over as Director of Mustang and Bronco for the East Zone West Region. Lastly, Lynch was appointed Director of Baseball for East Zone West Region in 2021.

“I initially became involved because of my love for coaching and to spend time with my sons,” Lynch said. “I then wanted to continue to provide help and support to the youth involved in PONY. I want to help in any way I can to see PONY grow.”

Lynch has been married to his wife Cathy for 45 years. He has two married sons and 4 grandchildren. Lynch retired for Allegheny Intermediate Unit after working 38 years as a Speech and Language Clinician. He loved to coach high school basketball and college basketball.

Steve Workman
In 1992, Steve Workman’s son started as a new Shetland player at West Covina Youth Pony Baseball. The following year, Steve was encouraged to run for an open board position and remained on the board in various capacities including league president for the next 12 years.

When Workman was League President, he became an ‘honorary field director’ to assist during sanctioned PONY Tournaments. It wasn’t until 1992 that he formally became a Field Director and then promoted to Region Director in 2008. In 2015, Workman became part of PONY Baseball and Softball International Board of Directors for the West Zone. He was appointed to the Executive Committee in 2019 replacing Dick Whitts as Corporate Secretary. Workman is currently the Corporate Treasurer and the Division Director for Southern California, Arizona and Hawaii replacing his good friend and mentor Don Goebel.

Workman has always been a baseball guy. It was a natural fit once his son became involved in the league. The league was always in need of volunteers and he wanted to do his part to contribute to the success of the program.

His favorite part about being involved with PONY is the comradery and lifelong friendships that have been established over the years. In addition, having the opportunity to be part of the leadership team on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee that helps shape the future of PONY Baseball and Softball.

Stephanie Allen

Stephanie had an early start within PONY Baseball and Softball. She became involved with it as a player in 1980. Once her athletic career within PONY was over, she became a Field Director in 2000. After holding that position for some time, Allen moved to North Zone Softball Director. In 2016, she became a member of the PONY Baseball and Softball International Board of Directors. Recently, Allen was elected to become the Secretary of the Board.

“It is such an honor for me to serve in this role. I appreciate the confidence of the President and Vice Presidents to support my nomination,” Allen said about her nomination.

Allen grew up playing PONY. Her community has been part of the organization for many years. Allen played in several tournaments and traveled for Zone and World Series events. As a teen she made several friends across the country playing softball.

Because Allen grew up playing within the organization, she knew what a positive impact this program has on communities and the children.  Knowing this she wants to help the program continue to grow and continue its mission of “Protecting Our Nation’s Youth.” She would like more communities to join the organization and allow their youth the opportunity to participate in PONY Baseball and Softball.

Stephanie Allen resides in Southern Illinois with her husband and two children. She is a second grade teacher, she coaches High School softball and she runs the PONY league in her community.
