Kempsville PONY Baseball Honors Fallen Firefighter

Matthew Chiaverotti, a Virginia Beach Firefighter and coach of one of Kempsville’s PONY Baseball teams was honored during his team’s Bronco league game after losing his battle with thyroid cancer. During the game, Matthew’s team wore special uniforms honoring him with his Engine 7 logo on the front of their jerseys and his nickname “Chevy” on the left sleeve. Before the game, Matthew’s son, Gus, threw out the first pitch in his dad’s honor. Captain Chiaverotti was one of the responders on the scene to a jet crash in Virginia Beach, that miraculously didn’t kill anyone after the jet crashed into an apartment complex ten years ago.  Members of Captain Chiaverotti’s Engine 7 Department came out to show their support for Matt and his family.
